Wet and Wind Resistant Year 3!

19th Jan 2026
Year 3 braved the elements today, heading over to Hill@High for some Numeracy tasks!

Children ran about on a 5 minute scavenger hunt task, looking for sticks galore, then dropped them off to Base Camp. Here, they were challenged to create 2D shapes, using their knowledge of verticies and sides.

This activity helped the children to:
🌿 Develop teamwork and communication skills
🟦 Recognise and name 2D shapes
📐 Understand properties such as sides and corners
🤲 Use problem‑solving to decide which sticks would fit each shape
🌞 Gain confidence learning outdoors in a fun, hands-on way

The children were enthusiastic and creative, and we’re proud of how well they worked together!

It was very wet, but this did not dampen the spirits of wet and wind resistant Year 3!

Have a look to see what we got up to!

I wonder what shape needed...
  • 5 straight sides
  • 6 straight sides
  • 8 verticies?
What shape could we NOT make from the straight sticks?
