P.3 Visit the Sorting Office!
Primary Three pupils enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to the local sorting office in Omagh today. The trip gave the children a behind-the-scenes look at how letters and parcels are processed and delivered.
When we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly and explained the journey of a letter—from posting in a mailbox to reaching its destination. The pupils were fascinated to see the large frames that sort thousands of letters every day. They also learned about the different jobs in the sorting office, including postal workers, drivers, and machine operators.
The highlight of the visit was watching the post workers in action and seeing how quickly they organize mail by postcode. Pupils asked lots of questions and were amazed at the scale of the operation. Before leaving, everyone received a small souvenir and a leaflet about the postal system.
Congratulations to Oscar, Kai and Charlie who answered questions correctly, and won a prize today!
This visit helped the children understand the importance of communication and teamwork in delivering mail. It was a fun and informative experience that linked perfectly to our World Around Us topic on “The Post Office.”
Thank you to Sean for allowing us to visit during this very busy time of year!
We found out...
- The post workers start work at 8:00am
- There are 50 vans in Omagh to deliver the letters and parcels.
- There are 25,000 houses in Omagh to deliver letters and parcels to!
