The children took part in an outdoor measuring investigation using rulers and metre tapes to explore and compare length. They worked together to measure a variety of natural and playground objects, including sticks, leaves, benches and outdoor equipment.
The focus of the activity was to decide whether each object was shorter than or longer than a quarter of a metre (25 cm).
Using rulers and metre tapes carefully, the children practised lining up objects correctly and reading measurements accurately. The activity helped to develop the children’s understanding of standard units of measure through active, hands-on learning outdoors.
