OCPS Children's Mental Health Week 2026

8th Feb 2026

This week our whole school community came together to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week through a range of creative, reflective and nurturing activities centred around the theme “This is My Place.” It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils and staff to explore what makes them feel safe, valued and connected within our school.

Throughout the week, classes took part in Connect and Nurture sessions, giving pupils time to talk, listen and reflect on their feelings. These sessions encouraged kindness, empathy and the importance of looking after our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.

A highlight for many classes was the creation of a “This is My Place” mosaic. Each pupil contributed a piece that represents them, coming together to form a beautiful display that celebrates belonging and individuality. In classrooms, children also designed their own personal islands, thinking about the people, places and activities that help them feel happy, calm and supported. These creations sparked great conversations about identity and connection.

In P7, we were delighted to launch our new High Five Friday, a positive initiative that celebrates effort, kindness and encouragement. As it was 'Time to Talk Day' we focussed on the 'Connect' part of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

Creativity played a big role in the week, with a variety of art activities allowing pupils to express their feelings and ideas about what “This is My Place” means to them. In P7, pupils explored the power of positive thinking, learning how mindset can influence emotions, confidence and resilience. They discussed strategies to reframe negative thoughts and support one another.

Our youngest pupils in P1 also had a special milestone this week as they enjoyed their first trip to Bob & Berts. The outing supported independence and confidence as they experienced being out together as a class in the wider community.

Children’s Mental Health Week reminded us all that our school is a place where everyone belongs. By connecting, creating and nurturing one another, we continue to build a caring environment where every child feels that this truly is their place.
