Year 4 (Mrs Alcorn's Class) : A Wonderful May and June Full of Fun and Learning!

27th Jun 2025

The past two months have flown by in Year 4, and what a fantastic time we've had! From exciting adventures to inspiring visitors, the children have been busy learning, exploring, and having lots of fun.

We kicked off May with the Sustrans Scavenger Hunt, led by Amy, where pupils enjoyed a fun-filled day discovering hidden clues around the school grounds while learning all about active travel and the importance of staying healthy and eco-friendly.

Our Mandarin lessons with Nancy have continued to be a highlight each week. The children are becoming more confident with their vocabulary and pronunciation – it’s amazing to hear them speak in a new language!

We were proud to take part in World Empathy Day by joining a live webinar organised by Omagh Library, which featured a real-life illustrator. The children were inspired as they listened to stories and discussed the importance of understanding how others feel.

One of the most exciting moments this term was the Jurassic Ark Encounter, organised by our brilliant School Council. Year 4 met some fascinating creatures – there were gasps of amazement all round!

In our new topic, ‘Up, Up and Away’, we’ve been learning about flight, birds, and space. The children were thrilled to build and launch their very own rockets during a fun and educational workshop with Peter from Sentinus. There was a real buzz in the air as rockets soared skyward!

Back in the classroom, we’ve been working hard and having fun with lots of interactive and creative activities in Literacy and Numeracy and especially during our time at Hill @ High. It's been wonderful to see the children grow in confidence and enjoyment in these key areas.

To top it all off, we ended our year in style with a fabulous trip to Aladdin's Kingdom and the Grange Park. The sun was shining, the smiles were wide, and the laughter never stopped – a perfect celebration of a fantastic year.

Well done, Year 4 all the staff at proud of what you have achieved this term!
