March in Room 1

31st Mar 2023

Spring is finally here, after a few false starts.  We created melting snowmen to symbolise the change from Winter to Spring and the warmer and brighter days.  We learned all about the signs of Spring and created lovely crafts in sensory art.

In PDMU we have been investigating our feelings.  We made our own squishy balls that we can use if we are feeling angry and breathing buddies to help us to remember to take deep breaths when we are feeling overwhelmed.

We have been making 10 in different ways and learning all about writing number sentences.  We used counters, cubes, numicon and magnetic letters in our activities.

We learned all about Saint Patrick and how he is believed to have brought Christianity to Ireland.  We made leprechaun faces and shamrocks in our sensory art.

Mother’s Day is a very special day, we decorated some lovely poems for the special women in our lives and made them some chocolates 😊  we hope they enjoyed eating them, we enjoyed making them and licking the spoons after 😊

We began our Traditional Tales topic and had great fun learning the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood.  We made bridges and rafts for the goats to cross the river.  We thought about different ways they might be able to cross, the zipline idea was our favourite 😊

In science we learned about things that float and sink and about materials that are waterproof.  We had great fun completing our investigations and recording our results.

Monday 27th March marked the first day of Autism Acceptance Week 2023.  We are proud of the staff members that completed the Omagh Half Marathon to support our local National Autistic Society group.

Have a lovely Easter holiday from all the children and staff from Room 1.
