December in Year 4!
December has been a busy and exciting month in Year 4, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum!
In Literacy, we explored common and proper nouns, building our understanding of how they are used in writing. We also finished our class text Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, which the children really enjoyed. Alongside this, we continued our learning about different types of poetry, reading, discussing and creating poems of our own.
In Numeracy, we started our learning on multiplication by making sets of amounts and using repeated addition. We discovered that the 2 times table is just like doubling, which helped us build confidence and fluency. We also completed written subtraction calculations and began working on written multiplication calculations.
For our Topic Maths, we learnt all about tessellation and created some amazing tessellating artwork using the computer. The children showed great creativity and mathematical understanding in their designs.
We continued our topic work on life in the past, learning about schools, toys and Christmas in the past and comparing them to life today. In Science, we learnt about Thomas Edison and enjoyed creating electrical circuits, successfully making a bulb light up – a very exciting achievement!

Well done, Year 4, for another wonderful month of learning
