Year 5 Compound words in the sunshine!
The children took part in an outdoor compound word lesson through a scavenger hunt activity.
Word cards were hidden around the outdoor area, and each child searched for two separate words. Once found, they worked to match their words with others to create compound words (for example, sun + flower = sunflower).
The activity encouraged active learning, problem-solving, and collaboration while developing the children’s understanding of how compound words are formed.
The playground created high engagement and enthusiasm, with children eager to search, read, and combine words. They demonstrated growing confidence in identifying familiar words and using them to build new vocabulary in a fun, practical way.
