Year 6 Eco Schools Gardening Workshop

29th Nov 2021

Year 6 were happy to be involved in a gardening workshop as part of Eco Schools and the Danske Bank Outdoor Learning Garden Project.

We went to the hall to meet our leaders Anna and Gareth, and they took us out into the front garden and told us all about the things planted there. Our job was to make mulch for the trees and take away dead branches and twigs. We also met some very wriggly worms - better than a petting zoo! Anna and Gareth were very impressed at how well our garden had been looked after - they said it was as good as any they'd seen.

After a short break we went back to the hall. This next session was all about tasting the berries and fruit that we are growing in our garden. We were able to make delicious mixtures of blueberries, raspberries, plums, pears and apples, adding them to yogurt and jam. Some pupils enjoyed it so much they went back for seconds (and thirds, fourths...) and quite a few tried fruit they had not tasted before which was great to see and quite brave. Thanks to Anna and Gareth for coming over to work with us - we had a great morning!
