North Wales Day 3

16th May 2019

Our final full day away! Thursday was 'Welsh History Day' - a perfect way to round off any trip.

Our first stop was a tour around Caernarfon Castle - 700 years old and full of stairways and passages to explore. We even took part in a very small scale invasion of the castle and saw where Charles became Prince of Wales.

After a scenic bus ride through Snowdonia we reached Llechwedd Slate Mines. We were swiftly transported 500 feet underground for a really interesting tour of the old slate caverns - dug by hand 150 years ago. There are over 25 miles of tunnels but we didn't have time to see them all. The pupils had a go at drilling slate and climbing chains - so they should be even better at tidying their bedrooms and basic household chores when they return.

After our final evening meal we found some time for beach football and rugby before heading off to the swimming pool. Time for packing now and the long trip home tomorrow!
